Neighborhood:

We are located in a wooded neighborhood of several dozen full-time residences and vacation homes. The southern locale and 1,800 foot elevation ensures moderate summers and winters. As the crow flies, we are only about one mile north of the Georgia border, and the town of Murphy is about ten minutes away by car.

The house is situated on Nottely River between two TVA lakes. Being a TVA flood controlled river, the Nottely does not suffer from drought or flood. Also, since the flow is taken from the bottom of Lake Nottely a few miles upstream, the water is remarkably cool and clean, and supports a large population of fish, including varieties that only thrive in cool water.

Murphy:

Murphy is the county seat of Cherokee County, the western-most county in North Carolina. Murphy has become a popular retirement and get-away destination due to its proximity to major population centers and mild climate.

As a regional center, Murphy has major national shopping and restaurants, etc. But it has also retained its small town charm with many locally owned and operated boutiques, restaurants, and other shops. Thus, it offers the best of all worlds when it comes to shopping, dining, antiquing, and many others.

Region and State:

The region offers way too much in terms of quality life style and recreation to cover here. Atlanta, Chattanooga, Ashville, and Gatlinburg are all about two hours by road. The international airport at Atlanta and the rest of the world are just a little further. The resort center at Cherokee is less than an hour away. Also in the immediate area are four golf courses and numerous other recreational opportunties.

The region is an outdoor person's paradise. Two TVA lakes are just minutes away by car or boat. There are two world-class kayak and rafting rivers nearby. Great Smokey Mountain National Park and the Applachian Trail are nearby.

The above is just the briefest discussion about our location. For more information, follow the highlighted links.
